Former UK Council member of the International Gastric Cancer Association and Board member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology. Past chair NHS England Specialist Cancer Surgery Clinical Reference Group He has maintained an interest in surgical training throughout his consultant career and was chair of the UK Joint Committee on Surgical Training (2015-2017). He has worked with the GMC, the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and Health Education England leading the joint HEE / RCS England Improving Surgical Training project. Member of Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England with responsibility for Workforce and Training. Visiting Professor of Surgery at the Kent and Medway Medical School.
