I am currently working in Derby and have a role as Lead for Day Surgery there. I have had an interest in Day Surgery and have worked in this area for the last 19 years as a Consultant Anaesthetist. During this time I have helped develop day surgery and move many operations from overnight stays to same day discharges in our hospital. I have a special interest in pre-operative assessment for Day Surgery and designed and developed a specific Day Surgery Combined Nurse and Anaesthetic Clinic in 2012 aimed at increasing the number and complexity of patients offered day surgery. I am also involved in teaching and training in Day Surgery to many members of the multi-disciplinary team, both locally and nationally and have authored the chapter on Day Surgery in the Textbook of Anaesthesia used by many anaesthetic trainees. I recently became a member of BADS council with the aim of expanding education and my involvement in Day Surgery further and I am an author for the GPAS Day Surgery Chapter for 2022 with the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
