A recent past President of BAPRAS (2019-20), Mark Henley is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgeon with extensive experience in clinical practice, postgraduate surgical training and surgical leadership.
As a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Nottingham specialising in cleft lip and palate surgery Mark was core to the development of the Trent regional cleft lip and palate surgery service which enjoys an international reputation for excellence
He has been highly involved in education and training in plastic surgery in the UK and piloted hands-on training in cosmetic surgery in collaboration with the UK's private health sector.
Founding Chair of the JCST Training Interface Group in Reconstructive Cosmetic Surgery he became Educational Adviser for all the JCST Interface training groups and developed interface fellowships in major trauma and skin cancer.
An examiner and then assessor of examiners for the FRCS(Plast), Mark was the first external examiner for the MSc course on ageing skin and aesthetic medicine at the University of Manchester.
Mark was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Health Education England (HEE) for excellence in Postgraduate Medical Education 2020.
A member of the Nuffield Council's working party on bioethics, Mark was an expert advisor to the GMC developing 'Good Practice in Cosmetic Surgery',
Mark developed PRASIS, a mutual specialty specific indemnity scheme for plastic surgeons which is now the largest indemnity provider for plastic surgeons in UK private practice.
Mark is vice president of the European Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery ESPRAS
