Ian began as an Engineer developing aircraft engines for Rolls-Royce. Ian transitioned to Health and Life Sciences with PA Technology, the Cambridge based Consultancy specialising in innovation and technology. Ian developed many new products for: drug delivery; diagnostics; surgical devices and implants on multi-disciplinary programs. As Senior Partner and joint leader of the global Health and Life Science business he was responsible for revenues of approximately £200Mpa. Ian stepped out of the conventional Consulting role on four occasions to lead three successful start-ups, two successful trade sales and one successful turnaround. In October 2014 Ian became McLaren Applied Technologies CEO.
