
Gill Tierney

Gill Tierney graduated from Nottingham University, trained in the East Midlands, and was awarded an MD from Nottingham University in cancer biology. She received the ASGBI FRCS Gold Medal and was appointed consultant surgeon in Derby over twenty years ago. Her clinical interests are in robotic rectal cancer surgery and pouch surgery. Her research interests include improving outcomes in emergency surgery and inclusivity in surgery. She examines the intercollegiate FRCS, is a member of the general surgery SAC and a member of the Education and Training Committee of the ACPGBI. She has been RCS tutor, Training Program Director and is currently the Head of School of Surgery for Health Education East Midlands. She has an Honorary Chair at the University of Nottingham. She is President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, the second ever female in one hundred years.
