Gerard is a Consultant at South Tees Hospitals and holds Honorary Chairs at Hull York Medical School and Teesside University. His clinical interests focus on preparation and risk evaluation of patients for high-risk surgery. He is Vice-President of the International Prehabilitation Society and Clinical Lead for South Tees strategy and implementation of prehabilitation. In 2018 he implemented a community-based prehabilitation service for patients before surgery, PREPWELL, which was awarded runner-up and high commendation in the 2020 BMJ Team of the Year finals. The service is presently collaborating with Industry partners in developing remote digital solutions to support patients perioperatively.
