Consultant Neurosurgeon, Defence Medical Services
Lt Col David Baxter is a Defence Medical Services Consultant Neurosurgeon and a complex spinal consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. He is co-running the only Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT) trial in the UK to treat scoliosis. A novel, minimally invasive technique using endoscopic surgery. His practise involves all aspects of spinal neurosurgery in children and adults. His research interests are in Surgical skills, recovery from spinal cord injury and primary tumours of the spine. He completed his PhD thesis “BIOSAP: the blast injury outcome study in armed forces personnel” at University College London. His supervisors were Prof David Sharp and Neil Kitchen. His specialist neurosurgical training was based in the South Thames rotation, which included Kings College London. He completed fellowships in Ulme, Germany, St George’s Hospital, London and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
