Final Year Medical Student, KSS OMFS Medical Student Ambassador, University Hospitals Sussex
Abirami is a final year medical student with an ambition of becoming an Academic Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) surgeon with research interests in head and neck oncology. She was awarded a first-class BSc degree in Anatomy, Developmental and Human Biology from King’s College London; having completed her dissertation on Transoral Robotic surgery (TORS) for Oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) in 2020. As outgoing ASiT Regional Ambassador for Brighton and Sussex Medical School, she attended CMR Surgical headquarters and participated in the CMR Surgical Study using the Versius Surgical Robotic system earlier this year. Abirami is a keen advocate for collaborative research and innovative medical education and is currently on the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) Student Council. As the current Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) OMFS Medical Student Ambassador, she will be speaking about the importance of Social media in facilitating engagement with Virtual Reality in Medicine and Surgery (VRiMS) technology.
