Live demonstration invites visitors to get hands-on with iconic da Vinci surgical system at Future Surgery 2022

Live demonstration invites visitors to get hands-on with iconic da Vinci surgical system at Future Surgery 2022
A live demonstration of the iconic da Vinci Xi surgical system will take place at Future Surgery 2022 to showcase how robotic surgery is allowing surgeons to perform more complex and challenging surgery with more precision and control to improve patient outcomes.

Leading surgeons from The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in the fields of Urology and Bariatrics will be live on stage to discuss the most recent developments around robotic-assisted surgery in their respective disciplines, and to share a live demonstration of robotic-assisted surgery with a da Vinci Xi Surgical System on a dry model.

Visitors will also have the unique opportunity to participate in a hands-on experience with the state-of-the-art system, which translates the surgeon’s hand movements at the console in real time, enabling surgeons to perform delicate and complex operations through a few small incisions.

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust set out in 2008 to improve clinical and operational outcomes by adopting robotic-assisted surgery across multiple specialties.

This interactive session will also share insights from hospital executives who have supported the development of the Royal Berkshire’s robotics programme through service development and collaboration with commissioners.

Philip Charlesworth. Consultant Urological Surgeon at Royal Berkshire Hospital said: “Robotic surgery has transformed how minimally invasive surgery is performed, speeding up recovery times for patients and improving outcomes. With da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery being used increasingly throughout the UK to transform care, we are excited to be leading a demonstration of this iconic system. By giving visitors this hands-on experience, we hope to allow them to explore the value of robotic surgery and how it can help revolutionise patient care, and to inspire the next generation of surgeons. We look forward to welcoming you to the ABHI stand for an unmissable event.”

In the UK and worldwide, the uptake of robotic-assisted surgery is rapidly increasing, including applications in, urology, gynaecology, thoracics, head and neck and general surgery. Robotic-assisted surgery delivers a number of benefits versus conventional surgery, which include reduced trauma to patients that can lead to quicker recovery and better experiences, fewer days spent in the hospital and less physical stress on surgeons.

Visitors to this year’s Future Surgery will be able to watch a demonstration of the da Vinci Xi live on the Association for British Health Tech Industries’ (ABHI) Surgical Simulation Theatre.

Future Surgery 2022 takes place between 15th and 16th November 2022 at ExCel, London.

Delivered in partnership with The Royal College of Surgeons of England, it will be the biggest gathering of surgical and operating theatre teams with over 100 exhibitors and 100+ speakers set to attend this year.

Throughout the show, ABHI’s Surgical Simulation Theatre will be replicating a fully working operating theatre.

Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust’s session, ‘Expanding robotics and improving patient outcomes: The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust experience', will take place on the ABHI Simulation Stand on day 2 of Future Surgery 16th November between 12:40 – 13:40.
