Resilience training for surgeons ‘Psychological Body Armour’

15 Nov 2022
Theatre 1
Surgeons are profoundly affected by adverse events. Data on the nature and extent of this impact will be reviewed. Recognition of this impact demands two responses. We must be better at responding and supporting surgeons when adverse events occur, and we will look briefly at this. But prevention is better than cure. Can surgical resilience and surgical flexibility be enhanced prior to an adverse event such that the impact of (inevitable) adverse events will be reduced when they do occur? Strategies designed to answer this question will be reviewed and evaluated.
