Extended reality will have an increasingly important role in surgical training. It will improve the efficiency of surgical training and could be used to address the workforce plan. It also has a role in global health, potentially bringing equity to access of surgical training resources in the southern hjemisphere. As the technology improves, a variety of techniques can be adopted to embed this approach into both undergraduatre and postgraduate surgical training.
