In a future where the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in assessing individual patient pre-operative risks may become the norm, ensuring valid informed consent to treatment is obtained will be ever more critical. Whilst expectations from the increasing use of artificial intelligence across healthcare are many, within the area of informed consent, how it supports, enhances or augments the core shared decision-making conversations between patient and clinician, not replaces them will be key. The panellists, with extensive complementary experience and expertise, will pinpoint the positive opportunities, new medico-legal challenges, and ethical considerations this brings into focus.
