Getting your Methodology Right in Complex Surgical Interventions

10 Nov 2021
ASIT Innovation Theatre
Evaluation in surgery can be complex. For example, it can be difficult to know when to appropriately evaluate a new surgical intervention, how to disentangle the specific effect of the surgical procedure from the wider care pathway, how to accommodate for surgeon learning curves, and how to manage issues such as surgeon equipoise and patient preferences which may impact on any evaluation. However, all these issues can be appropriately addressed in your evaluation design. Getting your methodology right will ensure the delivery of high-quality evidence to inform surgical practice. This presentation will provide key insights from complex intervention design into how to get surgical evaluation right first time.
